Identify Your System And Navigation Version
Below are photos of the different systems BMW used. MINI systems will look different, and are not included in the examples below. In those cases the instructions should still be applicable, but if unsure, send your VIN to my WhatsApp using the button at the bottom of the page.
CCC (Car Communication Computer)
Some navigation versions on this system use DVD updates, not USB.
To find your navigation version on this system:
Open Navigation → Press Option On Controller → select Navigation System Version.
CCC vehicles typically have the below navigations installed:
- BMW Road Map Europe (East/West) MOTION

CHAMP2 / CIC (Car Information Computer)
To find your navigation version on this system:
Open Navigation → Press Option On Controller → select Navigation System Version.
CIC vehicles typically have the below navigations installed:
- BMW Road Map Europe (East/West) MOVE
- BMW Road Map Europe (East/West) MOTION
- BMW Road Map Europe (East/West) PREMIUM

NBT/EntryEVO (iDrive 4)
To find your navigation version on this system:
Open Navigation → Press Option On Controller → select Navigation System Version.
NBT vehicles typically have the below navigations installed:
- BMW Road Map Europe (East/West) ROUTE
- BMW Road Map Europe (East/West) NEXT
- BMW Road Map Europe EVO

NBTEvo (iDrive 5)
To find your navigation version on this system:
Open Map → Press Option → Select Map Version.

MGU21 (iDrive 8 / 8.5)
To find your navigation version on this system:
Go to Menu → Navigation → Settings → Update.
MGU21 vehicles typically have the below navigations installed:
- BMW Road Map Europe JOY

MGU22 (iDrive 9)
OS 9 vehicles use a different approach. These systems rely on live map streaming behaviour rather than traditional manual map package updates.
USB updates not supported on this system.

BMW MOVE navigation were primarily used in older BMW models equipped with the CCC (Car Communication Computer) / CHAMP2 infotainment systems, covering roughly 2007 through 2014.
MOTION
BMW MOTION navigation was primarily used in older BMW vehicles equipped with the CIC-MID infotainment system, covering roughly 2010 through 2014.
PREMIUM
BMW PREMIUM navigation was primarily used in older BMW vehicles equipped with the CIC-HIGH infotainment system, covering roughly 2008 through 2012.
NEXT
BMW NEXT navigation was primarily used in slightly older BMW vehicles equipped with the NBT infotainment system, covering roughly 2012 through 2017.
ROUTE
BMW ROUTE navigation was primarily used in slightly older BMW vehicles equipped with the EntryNav infotainment system, covering roughly 2014 through 2017.
EVO
BMW EVO navigation was primarily used in more recent BMW vehicles equipped with either EntryEVO or the NBTEvo infotainment systems, covering roughly 2016 through 2020.
WAY
BMW WAY navigation is primarily used in newer BMW vehicles equipped with the EntryNav2 infotainment system, covering roughly 2017 through to the present.
LIVE
BMW LIVE navigation is primarily used in newer BMW vehicles equipped with the MGU infotainment system, covering roughly 2018 through to the present.
JOY
BMW JOY navigation is primarily used in newer BMW vehicles equipped with the MGU infotainment system, covering roughly 2021 through to the present.
